Anna Bond, the visionary behind the creative stationery company Rifle Paper Co., began this journey of creative and inspirational paper goods in 2009 with her husband and business partner, Nathan. With almost five years in business, these two have forever impacted the world of stationery. Rifle Paper Co. has become a world renowned brand being featured in popular magazines such as O, The Oprah Magazine and Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine, and gaining clients around the world! We are big fans of Rifle Paper Co., so we decided to have a little chat with Anna about the start of her business and ask why she chose the quaint town of Winter Park, FL to house their studio.
How long have you been in business?
Rifle Paper Co. officially launched through our site four years ago.
Rifle Paper is such an interesting name, where did the inspiration behind the name come from?
It’s very random, actually. I was looking for a word that just clicked and really had nothing to do with what I do. I’d always loved the band name Spoon and that was the inspiration to find my own random, short word. I love that you can “rifle” through paper but really, it was the result of skimming through the dictionary until something stuck.
Rifle Paper Co. started as just an online store, but thanks to the growing success has expanded into a brick and mortar in Winter Park, FL! We are a Florida based blog and love where we live, but is there any particular reason you decided to settle in Winter Park?
I’m originally from New Jersey but moved to Florida for a job as an art director after college. I met my now husband Nathan here so it’s where we started to build our lives (he grew up here). Winter Park is one of the most special and unique places I’ve seen in Florida so when we decided to get studio space it was really the only place we were looking.
What do you like about the neighborhood that the studio is situated in?
Winter Park is incredibly charming with it’s brick streets, boutique shops and restaurants. You can walk to so many things from the studio. Plus, there are some other amazing small businesses in the area such as our studio neighbors, Makr. There’s also great festivals, the Winter Park boat tour, and so on.
You design so many beautiful products (of course our favorite is the City Map set)! We’ve read that you find inspiration in a hodgepodge of things, but is there any one thing that you can always rely on to inspire your work?
Definitely travel. It doesn’t even have to be far but it’s always nice to get out and see something new to spark inspiration.
We couldn't agree more! Speaking of maps and travel, which is your favorite city? Why?
I would have to say New York. I grew up just outside the city and loved taking the train in and wandering around. It always has a mix of nostalgia, inspiration, and brashness. I take as many trips there as I can and I always feel inspired and challenged. It makes you feel small but the opportunities are endless all at the same time.
Are there any new projects on the horizon for Rifle Paper Co (or anything exciting you’d like to share)?
I’m so excited about what’s in store for 2014! Some of our exciting projects include developing new products, debuting a wallpaper collection, and launching a brand new website!
